The Challenge

Environmental pressure, energy needs, and livelihoods are deeply connected

Many communities across the Mt. Kenya region face overlapping pressures: environmental degradation, declining tree cover, limited access to practical livelihood opportunities, and growing demand for cleaner and more affordable energy solutions.

Too often, these issues are addressed in isolation, even though they affect the same households, the same land, and the same long-term resilience of communities.

Mt Kenya Network Forum saw the need for a more integrated response — one that restores ecosystems, strengthens community resilience, and creates visible, practical models that people can learn from and adapt.

Why this mattered
